Enniscorthy’s Ladies 2nds played their first match of the South East League on Sunday, and emerged with a 1-1 draw following a tight encounter against Wexford 2nds. The Enniscorthy side started the brighter and had the Wexford defence under immense pressure from the start. This pressure paid off when midfielder Anna Flood scored for Enniscorthy from a well set up short corner. Enniscorthy were unlucky not to add a second shortly after when Niamh Buttle narrowly missed the posts from play. Enniscorthy were dominant in attack during the first half, though Wexford were unlucky not to claim an equaliser just before the break, Anna Flood and Julie Watchorn combining to clear a dangerous Wexford free. The Enniscorthy ladies defence held the line well during the second half with some outstanding saves by goalie Aoife Foran, however Wexford forward Natasha Quigley equalised with an unstoppable shot for Wexford following a well- placed pass from Fiona McDermott. The remainder of the encounter saw the balance of play see-saw between both sides, but both defences held strong. The two 'keepers pulled off some stellar saves- particularly Enniscorthy’s Aoife Foran- and her defensive line stopped a series of short corners from being converted in the second half. The Enniscorthy ladies will now begin their preparations to meet Carlow in the league under the management of Irene Doyle, Coach Ivanna Yates and Assistant Coach Jacinta Kinsella.
