Second's Captain Aoife Foran led the way as her team sought to redeem themselves from a disappointing start to the season. Aoife had her work cut out for her in goal against the first's spectacular front line. Serena Hatton and Eleanor Bolger worked with her to keep the first team in check.
Jessica Flood and Stephanie Kinsella ensured that the Enniscorthy firsts maintained their winning start to the season. Stephanie converted a pass from Jessie to score the first goal. Enniscorthy Seconds responded promptly, Eleanor sending a strong ball to Alice Kelly who set things in motion for the seconds. The first's back-line were up to the job however. Katie Owen and Julie Watchorn responded promptly to Alice Kelly and Niamh Buttle's efforts to reach their goal. The first's speedy midfielder Leah Chapman then returned the ball to their half of the field, where the dynamic duo, Jessie and Stephanie, worked together again to put the firsts up 2-0.
Aoife Foran and her back line defended their goal relentlessly, stopping some fierce shots on goal, until Nancy Dunphy broke past to score the first's third and final goal.
The first and second team both left the pitch in good spirits when club umpires Fraser Rothwell and Alan Smith sounded the final whistle. The first team were delighted to continue their winning start to the season while the second team, undeterred by a defeat to their club-women, are on the up, improving three-fold on their opening game. A good night for Enniscirthy Hockey Club on all sides!
