About Enniscorthy Hockey Club
From its humble beginnings in 1982, Enniscorthy Hockey Club has blossomed into an established and accomplished club, well respected by its fellow clubs across the South East.
In their early days, the Hockey Club played their games in the old Loreto School pitch on Weafer Street in Enniscorthy, and later in FCJ School in Bunclody. From the outset and for many years, the club trained in the grounds of Enniscorthy Rugby Club, where the Hockey Club benefited from the fitness training, game coaching and umpiring skills of some of the rugby club’s long-standing members.
The 1980s were years of great advances for Enniscorthy Hockey Club. The club began a period of almost total dominance of women’s hockey in the South East, winning a bagful of leagues and cups. Numerous club members have received provincial and International honours. The pinnacle of success for the club came in 2001 with the winning of the Irish Junior Cup.
The long-awaited development of ‘Astro-Active’ AstroTurf pitch in the Community Workshop at Bellefield in Enniscorthy has provided wonderful facilities for the club in recent years. In 2013 the decision was taken to form a men's team, which triumphed at the first attempt in winning Leinster division 8 honours.
