It was a momentous day for the u18 girls as they played their first match this season as a team. We traveled up to meet our competitors, Railway Union, eager to get out and play as a unit. The game was broken up into three thirds of 25 mins, with each girl wanting to go out and play their part for 'Scorthy. The first third was one full of action and brilliant play from both teams, with the Scorthy defence stopping all chances of Railway getting a score. After a brilliant passage of play, Jessie Flood went through on goal and was incredibly unfortunate not to convert a score. Railway struck back however and were well deserved of a goal that our defence tried so hard to clear out. But our girls heads never went down and it only made us more determined to push on and strike back. During the second third, a brilliant passage of play between the forwards almost saw the back of the Railway net rattled after great teamwork between Jessie Flood and Sophie McCabe. Unfortunately, it was deflected out for a long corner, but it showed the determination of our girls to battle hard for every ball that came their way. Railway were strong but our girls put it up to them, blocking short corners and sending the ball up to our forwards putting pressure on them. However, Railway came back again and scored two more goals between the second and third sets of play. It finished 3-0 in favour of Railway Union. Although the score does not look favourable towards our girls, the never say die attitude and constant support of each other was amazing and they kept going till the very end. Many thanks to Fiona Kidd, coach, Irene Doyle and Evelyn Owen for their support and belief in our young team and no doubt the next game will go in our favour!

It was an early start for the u14 girls as they travelled to Railway Union for their first match of the season, as they took on the challenge of the home team, over three twenty minute games. These games were played on half a pitch with 8 players aside. The Enniscorthy girls were not phased by facing such a strong opponent and straight from the tip off they took on the opposition with Hannah Sweeney, Lily Mahon and Laura Smith to the four. With Sophie Gillot and Katie Sutton solid in defence and Aoife Mernagh and Emer Doyle creative in midfield, they caused Railway Union all sorts of problems. With Alice Medcalf in goal making some outstanding saves, they held Railway Union to a 0-0 draw.
In the second game, we introduced Claire Mcgarry, Emer O'Doherty, Roisín Tracey and Aoife Mahon. They brought fresh legs to the game, resulting in a fantastic goal being scored by Claire Mcgarry. With all players contributing to a magnificent defensive performance, and with their passing and movement in attack, they ran out 1-0 winners. This was a magnificent result against one of the top clubs in the country. For the final twenty minute game, coach Alan Smith, assisted by Eamon Sweeney and David Mahon, it was decided to mix up both teams and play a friendly game for the final twenty minutes. The day was a great success for the u14's who are looking forward to having plenty of games in the months to come. And one final word of thanks to our team mascot and water boy, Brian Smith who kept all the team hydrated during the day Membership is due for the coming season, click here to get the membership form which you will return to your coach/group coordinator.
