A team representing Enniscorthy U10 boys travelled to Dublin last Sunday to play in a blitz. The competition was very efficiently hosted by the friendly Weston Hockey Club, which in based near Lucan in Dublin. 7 boys donned the purple shirts to give a very fine display of hockey to all the supporters. The first opposition were from the home club which beat us narrowly. Enniscorthy were unlucky not to score as they hit the post on two occasions, first the left post and then a couple of minutes later the right post. The second match was against the green shirts of Glenanne, which we come out victorious against and the third and final game was against Three Rock Rovers. The youngsters made no mistake here and apart from a few breakaway chances Enniscorthy had the upper hand from the get go. The seven lads played superbly as a complete team with all members making their contribution in whatever position they were asked to play. Team: Andrew, David, John, Mark, Robin, Sam and Stephen.

Last Sunday in Enniscorthy Astro our 1st year girls had their first full pitch match against Abbeyliex in not ideal weather conditions but non the less rose to the occasion very well and came away with a great result of 3-0 in their favour.
We had three 15min quarters and even though this was only a friendly game there was no resting on their laurels and got use to the space they had very quickly and ten mins in with a pass from Ciara Kelly to Aoife Mahon in the circle Aoife put Enniscorthy one goal up. We had four subs today so it was a roll on roll off system and with Agata and Grace having their first game they both got on very well. With Norah making her debut in the goal she handled anything that came near her with ease, Norah's job was made all the easier with a great performance from Eabha Farrell as sweeper who did not let much by her. Lettie, Anna and Gilly had the back line well under control and with Caoimhe, Ciara, Aoife and Niamh doing lots of running in mid field and feeding of the ball forward Rebecca, Martha, Eimer D and Emer Bowe The second goal came from Eimer Doyle who had a great game out on the right wing carrying it into the circle and pushing the score up to two. With Ciara K moving back to mid field and Martha into the forwards and a lovely pass from Eimer D to Martha she put it pass the keeper to make the final score 3-0. This was a great start and these girls should be really happy with there performance today. Team: Norah McGuinty, Aoife Mahon, Rebecca Leech, Caoimhe Larkin, Gilly Phelan, Lettie Hassett, Eimear Doyle, Niamh Ogilvie, Martha Dunne, Ciara Kelly, Anna Kavanagh, Emer Bowe, Grace O Dunlami, Agata Farioli Vecchioli, and Eabha Farrell. Keith, Judith and Orla. Last Friday nights junior Table Quiz was a great success despite the lower numbers, having discovered it was "Late Late Toy Show Night" this was understandable for those with children. A big thank you for all those who attended & dug deep into their pockets & of course our sponsors, Beechdale Garden Centre, Farrells Pharmacy, The Wilds Cafe & Design, Killowen Farm Yogurts, Kavanaghs, Coppens Pharmacy, Orla Harrington, the parents who kindly donated wine & chocolates for spot prizes. Enniscorthy's under 14 boys put in a stellar first half performance on their way to a 4-2 league win over North Kildare in atrocious weather conditions at the Astro Active Centre on Sunday.
The home side got off to a dream start after 2 minutes when Conor O'Brien found the back of the net following a swift upfield move. More was to follow eight minutes later when a second arrived; both Dunne and O'Brien laying claim to a doubling of the lead. A fine Ronan O'Leary strike then made it 3-0 before North Kildare struck, finding a gap in the Enniscorthy defence and the lead was down to two. Aodhan O'Leary had by this stage moved to the left back berth, and this move would pay dividends as the match progressed. Indeed, the seeds of this win were sown in defence; in addition to O'Leary, there were strong performances from Stewart and Doran alongside the energetic Seb Rynhart. Charlie Dunne, operating from midfield then found the net with a long-range effort from the outer edge of the semi-circle to cap an excellent opening 25 minutes. The second half told a different story as the Kildare side worked their way back into proceedings. Attempts on Glenn Rothwell's goal were few, but the Clonroche youngster was forced into a spectacular save when he found himself on the receiving end of a high ball looped in from the left wing. The visitors dominated possession for spells throughout but were only able to unlock the hard-working Enniscorthy defence once, a duo of Kildare attackers finding themselves unmarked at the far post following a cross from the left. The Wexford men also worked hard to extend their lead, Rogan and Ronan O'Leary making strong runs into the heart of the North Kildare defence but unlike the opening period, Enniscorthy were unable to take further advantage. Enniscorthy Squad: Glenn Rothwell; Pearse Rogan; Samuel Veitch; Conor O'Brien; Andrew Stewart; Gavin Cousins; Ross Wallace; John Sutton; Seb Rynhart; Ronan O'Leary; Jack Doran; Aodhan O'Leary; Evan Jacob; Charlie Dunne. Enniscorthy Hockey Club men's 1st team were once again out in search of their first league win of the season, but in contrast to their previous disappointments, Saturday saw them victorious against a skilful Rathgar 3rds team. The Slaneysiders knew from the early stages of the league that competition in division 5 is tight and that they would need to put up a good fight to be in with a chance of bagging all 3 points for themselves. So from the get go, they came out fighting, providing an excellent game of hockey both to play and watch. The first half saw multiple chances for Donal Doyle’s men, with excellent linking up the centre through midfielders, Daithi Medcalf, Glenn Chapman and David Simmons to forwards, Niall Maguire, Roy Chapman and Edmundas Liuikimas. However, with all the chances it wasn't until halfway through the first half, when centre forward Roy Chapman found the backboard with a reverse stick deflection from a pass received across the Rathgar circle. The change in the scoreboard did not mean that Enniscorthy took their foot off the pedal, when not long later, Glenn Chapman, the elder brother of Enniscorthy’s goalscorer Roy had a near miss with a chip in the direction of the Rathgar goal, but it sailed narrowly over the cross bar. Substitutes Jason Rothwell, John McWey and Liam Jowett all making big impacts when they came for the Wexford side. At half time it stood 1-0 to the home side. The second half saw the scoreboard change again, with the ball passing by the Dubliner’s keeper after a shot by midfielder David Simmons. Rathgar came back fighting trying to rectify the scores against them. They forced Enniscorthy defenders Clive Rothwell, Andrew Rothwell, Martyn Veitch and Keith Ogilvie to work hard. They also obtained multiple consecutive short corners, however, none of these resulted in goals for the visitors, due to excellent defending by Roy Chapmann, Clive, Martyn, Keith and the ever solid keeper Graham Hill. At the final whistle the delight and relief was evident from all involved as the Wexford men had finally obtained the win they have been in search of over the passed number of months. Enniscorthy will move forward and hope to maintain this winning momentum and seize another 3 points when they travel to take on Avoca in their next league match on 12th December. Enniscorthy Squad: Graham Hill; Keith Ogilvie; Clive Rothwell; Martyn Veitch; Andrew Rothwell; Glenn Chapman; Roy Chapman; Daithi Medcalf; David Simmons; Niall Maguire; John McWey; Edmundas Liuikimas; Jason Rothwell; Liam Jowett. Coach: Donal Doyle; Manager: Fraser Rothwell Enniscorthy's second team, playing in division 7, had a tough day at the office when going down 3-0 at home to Bray on Saturday. After a bright opening 15 minutes for the Wexford men, Bray worked their way into the game and emerged deserved winners, two of their goals coming from balls coming from deep in their own half. Seamus McAlister and John Casey made welcome returns for Enniscorthy, while Greg Hawkins and Ivan Rothwell put in excellent work at the back.
Enniscorthy Squad: Luke Doyle, Greg Hawkins, Ivan Rothwell, Conor Tull, David Mulligan, Alan Smith, Jonathon Rothwell, Jack Redmond, Fraser Rothwell, Robbie Walshe, Rory Maguire, William Durnan, Eamonn Sweneys, Seamus McAlister and John Casey. |
