On Saturday our 2nd Year Girls played host to Carlow in the first of this year’s South East League games.

Both sides created chances early on, with an excellent save from goalie K Freeman keeping Carlow at bay. Enniscorthy worked hard and took control of the game and dominated possession in the remainder of the first half. Despite having a goal disallowed from a penalty corner mid-way through the first half, the Enniscorthy girls continued to apply pressure and were rewarded with an excellent finish by L Kidd shortly before half time.
Enniscorthy continued to create more chances in the second half and were successful in achieving three further goals – two from play by both L Sutton and R Oglivie respectively and  a superbly executed penalty shot by L Kidd.
Carlow continued to move the ball forward but were denied any score by a combination of a solid defensive play and two further exceptional saves by  Enniscorthy goalkeeper Freeman.
Overall, Enniscorthy will be satisfied with a very good team performance against a well organised Carlow side.

​The girls under 16 and under 18 interprovincial tournaments took place in Belfast last weekend. Following their performances for South East four Enniscorthy players have been selected to take part in trials for the Irish under 16 national side. Ciara Kelly, Niamh Ogilvie, Nora McGinty and Leah Kidd will hope to be among those chosen for Brendan Carolan's side for the Six Nations to take place next summer.

On Saturday the ladies 1st team was in action at the Astro Active Centre in Enniscorthy, taking on division 7 league leaders  North Kildare.

The home side were a little nervous at the start but quickly settled down, showing stronger interplay than their opponents, with good linkup between the speedy mid-fielders Laura Bailey and Laura Smith. Their roving runs provided the forward division of Rynhart and Rudd with a number of opportunities but aside from forcing two penalty corners in the first half, Enniscorthy were bereft of ideas. Instead it was the visitors who took the lead, capitalising on a rare lapse of concentration in an otherwise very solid Enniscorthy defence from a penalty corner on the verge of half time. 

The home side created a glut of chances in the second half  but a very strong performance from the North Kildare goalkeeper kept the cathedral town side at bay.  Sweeney, Treacy and O'Leary were introduced during the second half to freshen up Enniscorthy's approach but the visitors held out for a win which Enniscorthy felt should have been theirs. No doubt plenty of lessons will be learned ahead of next weekend's trip to Sutton Park School to take on Suttonians.

​The under 16 boys hosted Avoca on Sunday and emerged with a 2-1 win at the Astro Active Centre, with both Enniscorthy goals coming from Dunne. The result leaves the side top of the league, with an away match against Three Rock Rovers and a home clash against Monkstown still to come.

​The Northern Ireland Civil Service grounds at Stormont played host to the girls under 16 and under 18 interprovincial tournaments at the weekend, and Enniscorthy Hockey Club was strongly represented. Nora McGinty, Ciara Kelly, Niamh Ogilvy, Leah Kidd and Hannah Graham were selected for the under 16 South East side, while Donal Doyle and Alan Smith were involved in the coaching set-up. Ivanna Yates and Alex Doyle-Weston managed the under 16 and under 18 sides respectively. The under 16 tournament was won by Leinster with South East finishing fourth while Ulster took the under 18 honours as South East finished third.
