The match started fast with Kilkenny quickly finding Enniscorthy’s circle. The goalie Fiona Rothwell made some great saves but Kilkenny found the back of Enniscorthy’s net. The South East Ladies were undeterred and fought back. Some great breaks from Olive Lett got the ball into the Kilkenny circle. The Marble City ladies again showed their skill and experience to score a further two goals in the first half.
Just before half time the first short corner was conceded. Enniscorthy defended well but the visiting players with possession struck a very fast and powerful ball into the back of Enniscorthy’s net.
Enniscorthy were behind on the score board but came out fighting in the second half. There were some great runs by Bridget Gainford, Nancy Dunphy and Lisa Frayne early in the second half on the right side of the pitch. The Slaneysiders were unlucky not to pull back a goal. A tiring Enniscorthy side conceded another goal from a short corner mid way through the second half. This was well chased down by Julie Watchorn. Kilkenny went on to score another three goals showing their strength and experience.
Enniscorthy now look ahead with determination to overcome this loss in their upcoming game against Wexford this Saturday.
