The visiting side dominated the opening half and were full value for a 3-0 half time lead. After sustained early pressure by Enniscorthy, some excellent work up the field by Ronan O'Leary set up Seb Rynhart for his first goal on the ten minute mark. His second was not long after, resulting from a great passage of play from Ronan O'Leary with a precise through ball to Pearse Rogan. The third goal was again a combination of O'Leary and Rogan and finished by Rynhart to complete his hat trick. The starting defensive line-up of Somers, Stewart, Veitch and debutant defender Aodan O'Leary left Glen Rothwell with little to do, while the midfield and attacking departments kept Kilkenny pinned inside their half for considerable portions of the opening period.
Kilkenny started the second half strongly and ten minutes in scored with a close-range effort from a short corner. Throughout the half Enniscorthy were under more pressure and dogged defending kept the College boys from securing any more scores. Intelligent play by Sam Veitch and captain Stewart at the back, along with Rogan and Ronan O'Leary in midfield helped keep the hosts at bay. The Enniscorthy forwards had three good attempts on goal in the second half and managed to win a number of short corners themselves, but were unable to extend their lead.
