In the first 10 minutes the sides seemed evenly matched but by midway through the first half Enniscorthy had the measure of the visitors. The Slaneysider forwards had three attempts on goal and the team maintained possession well with some superb passing evident in the half. The match was played at a very fast pace testing the fitness and commitment of our boys who worked hard and showed great heart throughout.
Enniscorthy were awarded 3 short corners early in the second half, unfortunately none were converted. Kilkenny then had a purple patch with 3 consecutive breaking runs. However, fantastic defending by Enniscorthy meant Kilkenny did not get into scoring range. Home goalie Glen Rothwell had a very quiet night at the office!
This was a great match to watch. The home team showed some superb passing and skills and huge effort from all 13 boys. There is no doubt Enniscorthy U14 boys are benefitting greatly from the drills they learn at training from coaches Kai Gahan and Kieran Costello. They were denied a win tonight by the outstanding play of the two Kilkenny full backs.
Enniscorthy Squad: Seb, Harry, Andrew (captain), Ross, Jack, Pearse, Aodán, Mervyn, Evan, Charlie, Gavin, Ronan and Glen.
