Enniscorthy started with direction and purpose and straight away took the game to their opponents. Using the full width of the pitch with winger Hannah Sweeney combining with Susannah Doyle created a goal scoring chance for centre forward Elaine Quigley who finished smartly to score our first goal. This was a real confidence boost to this young Enniscorthy side and as the game wore on, they created more and more chances. With debutants Ciara Kelly outstanding in midfield and Ailbhe Harrington working very well in the forward line, they created another opportunity this time, again, good work by Elaine Quigley who got the final touch.
With the girls now two nil up, it was the turn of the Tullamore team to attack. But with Aoife Mernagh, Katie Sutton and Sophie Gillot solid in the back line and captain Laura Smith controlling things at sweeper, Tullamore never really threatened. The couple of times that they did break through Alice Medcalf was safe and dependable in goal.
With some positional switches Emer Doyle and Eve Furlong combined to create some penalty corners. One of which was converted by Susannah Doyle to make the score three nil.
This was a day of first for this young Enniscorthy side. It was their first full game of 11 a side on a full pitch. It was their first victory in an 11 a side game. It was their first time they played a game with penalty corners and first time scoring from a penalty corner. All in all it was a magnificent performance by every player involved. We would like to thank the parents who travelled on the bus and the parents who travelled to support. A special word of thanks to the sixth class players, Ciara Kelly and Ailbhe Harrington who weren't out of their depth by any means and played very well. This team now hope to build on this performance and will look to improve again in their upcoming games after Christmas!!!
