Enniscorthy U16 boys played their first Leinster league game against Atlantic Academy last Sunday in Astro Active Centre, Enniscorthy. The game finished as a draw, from the start and throughout it was a very tight game, with both sides battling it out for the first goal. Enniscorthy’s, Peter Yaciuk O'Connor broke the deadlock when he found the back of the net just seconds before the whistle was blown for the end of the first half.
In the early stages of the second half there was some great play from Enniscorthy both in defence and attack. The Westerners had two short corners awarded but were unable to convert, thanks to Andrew Stewart and Jack Doran, as they made some goal saving clearances. The Slaneysiders cleared the ball up the pitch towards midfielder Charlie Dunne, who combined with Pearse Rogan to feed Seb Rynhart, who was unfortunate not to score for the South East side. Enniscorthy had ample scoring opportunities only to be saved by the visitors excellent ‘keeper. Atlantic Academy seized a great opportunity in the dying seconds of the game when they scored their first goal of the game, drawing things all square just before the final whistle.
Next up for the U16 boys of Enniscorthy Hockey Club is an away fixture against Corinthians of Dublin.
