Wexford began to build some momentum halfway through the first half but could not manage to break the defensive line of Katie Owen, Áine O'Brien, Ruth Harrington and Julie Watchorn. Katie continued to block any attempts of Wexford attack down their right side. The half time whistle blew and the scoreboard remained at 1-0 to the home side.
The second half started with an Enniscorthy push back. Re-energised from the break, Enniscorthy displayed some great team play, passing from centre mid Anna Flood up the right hand side of the pitch. Seven minutes into the 2nd half, right mid Jessie Flood passed a lovely ball in from the right to Nancy Dunphy, who slotted it in through the Wexford keeper’s legs. Enniscorthy kept the tempo up and Sonja was unlucky to put a shot just wide due to great pressure from the Wexford goalie. This was followed by great play again up the right of the pitch by Rynhart and the Flood sisters. Halfway through the second half saw a goal by Chapman, who took a shot from top of circle, a Wexford defender got a touch but was unable to stop the ball from passing the goal line. Chapman managed to hit the backboard once again from the top of the circle, making the score 4-0. With five minutes to go, Wexford were awarded a short corner, but the Enniscorthy defence put pressure on early and prevented Wexford making anything of the corner. Just before the final whistle, Wexford made a break up he left of the pitch, but Áine O'Brien showed some excellent defensive skills and stopped the Wexford forward in her tracks.
The final whistle sounded leaving the score at 4-0, giving Enniscorthy Ladies 1st XI their first points on the South East League table. Enniscorthy Ladies 1st and 2nd XI now come head to head in their league encounter this Friday, 7th October in Astro Active Centre, Enniscorthy.
