With the home side taking the first tip off, Enniscorthy applied pressure, eventually turning over the ball and attacking up the right hand side of the pitch. Forwards Olive Lett, Anna Flood and Sonja Rynhart had many circle entries early on and, alongside midfield Jessie Flood, were unlucky not to capitalise on their goal-scoring attempts. Great passing up the left from back Katie Owen to Laura Bailey, Laura Smith and Olive Lett put pressure on the home side’s defence.
After 15 minutes of play, a smart intercept by left wing Lett left the Genesis defence out of position, and a quick pass right to the approaching Rynhart allowed her to strike the ball cleanly into the back of the goal.
After half time, Genesis increased their attack. Nevertheless, the defence of Katie Owen, May Wickham, Julie Watchorn and Leah Chapman, ensured the opposition did encroach on Enniscorthy goalie Norah McGinty.
Despite dominating proceedings, Enniscorthy were unable to extend their lead following Rynhart’s first-half strike, leading to a nervous final quarter for the Wexford side. Enniscorthy now take a well-deserved break and return for their first match of 2018 when they take on Clontarf 3rds at home on 6th January.
