Despite the cold conditions both sides settled quickly, with the firsts dominating play as was expected and were continually attacking. However, it was the 10th minute before the opening score came when a through ball from Nancy Dunphy was finished to the net by Leah Chapman. 'Keeper Aoife Foran prevented a number of other efforts and sent her side on sporatic offence moves. Sonja Rynhart who was very effective for the firsts was on the end of a swift move to flash home goal number two and followed up with a swift strike for number three in the 28th minute. She completed her hat-trick before the break after a short corner had been batted away. The short whistle sounded with the favorites 4 nil ahead.
The second period brought no respite for the seconds with very heavy pressure being exerted and the opening goal of that half came after a flowing move between Ruth Harrington and Lisa Frayne with Sonja Rynhart finding the net. Further goals followed from Olive Lett and the leading scorer Sonja Rynhart, leaving the final score at 7-0. While the firsts were dominant, the seconds were well served by Caroline Doyle, Laura Redmond and 'keeper Aoife Foran who had an excellent game.
